Country Life host Susan Murray was presented with the Horticulture New Zealand Journalism Award at a gala event last night.
The New Zealand Guild of Agriculture Journalists and Communicators Awards were presented in Wellington’s Brewery Bar yesterday.
Horticulture New Zealand Chief Executive Mike Chapman says Susan Murray summed up one of the key issues facing growers in her awards entry.
“The stories Susan has covered show the diversity of the horticulture sector, tackling both the issues and giving time to the people who are out there innovating, adding personality and heart to our sector,” Chapman says.
“Her piece on Housing vs Horticulture tackles an issue faced by many of our growers in rapidly expanding urban areas where the need to put up more housing, quickly, can be at the expense of prime productive soils for growing fruit and vegetables.
“Given the importance of horticulture to the New Zealand economy, not to mention our food supply, it is essential that media are on top of such issues and are able to ask the hard questions.
“We commend Susan for her work.”
