HortNZ and Vegetables NZ present at select committee on RMA amendment bill

3 March 2025

HortNZ General Manager Policy and Strategy and Vegetables NZ Chair, John Murphy appeared in front of the Environment Committee on 3 March. This select committee is hearing submissions on proposed RMA amendments.

Michelle and John’s message was simple: if New Zealand wants to continue to grow its own fresh vegetables, vegetable growing must become a permitted activity in new resource management legislation.

The joint appearance is part of advocacy for vegetable growing to become a permitted activity; and long term, for a National Environmental Standard for Commercial Vegetable Production to be put in place, which requires growers to operate with a freshwater farm plan.
