Recognition at the NZ Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators awards
13 November 2023
Congratulations to Tairāwhiti-based writer Kristine Walsh who has been recognised by the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators for her articles published by Horticulture New Zealand in its magazines The Orchardist and NZGrower. At the guild’s annual journalism awards late last week, Kristine was awarded runner-up for the Ministry for Primary Industries Rongo Award for two articles which both covered the immediate aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle.
Her articles impressed the judges by looking behind the headlines at the personal stories of Gisborne growers affected by the severe weather. The Orchardist and NZGrower are New Zealand's premier grower resource for the horticulture sector. The magazines reach every levy-paying commercial grower in New Zealand as well as rural professionals including distributors, suppliers, students and politicians.
Read her articles online:
- “Every day feels like a year” March 2023
- “Flood through Te Karaka orchard ‘like a washing machine’” April 2023
