Vanuatu earthquake

Kate Scott, chief executive of Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ), said: “Our thoughts are with the people of Vanuatu, and particularly our Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) workers and their families, during this difficult time.

“The New Zealand Government is providing relief supplies and assistance, and we understand these will reach those in need in Vanuatu as soon as possible.

“HortNZ is working closely with Immigration New Zealand and will provide updates when information is available.

“We are encouraging all RSE employers in the horticulture sector to check in on their Ni-Vanuatu workers, who may be feeling anxious or worried.

“Given the current challenges with communication in Vanuatu, employers who have access to Starlink or other satellite services may be able to help facilitate contact between workers and their families.”
